Barber left her job at around 1:30 p.m. on May 31, 1984 at Bobbie Magee’s Club in Gulfport, Mississippi. She got into a cab with a female co-worker who stated that Barber was reportedly very intoxicated at the time. The cab arrived at the Holiday Inn on Highway 90 in Gulfport. The female co-worker got out of the cab and walked towards the hotel. The cab driver realized that Barber was asleep in the backseat. The cab driver asked Barber’s co-worker what to do with Barber and she said “do whatever you want!” He was able to wake Barber, but when she woke up she did not know where she was. She exited the cab and walked in the direction of the beach. This is the last time she was ever seen.
The cab driver realized that Barber had left her purse in the backseat shortly after leaving the Holiday Inn, so he turned around and went to the hotel to find the co-worker. She told the cab driver to turn the purse into the police, which he did.
Barber has never been seen or heard from since. There are few details available in her disappearance.
