Barnes was last seen the afternoon of July 7, 2000, at a family member’s home in the 800 block of Little Street in West Point, Mississippi. She was reported missing by her family ten days after she was last seen and she did not show up to her grandmother’s funeral.
At the time of her disappearance, Barnes had a young daughter. Her family says that it was not unlike her to go a few days without contact but it was very unlike her to not make contact with family for over a week. Before she disappeared, Barnes told her sister that a man threatened her with a knife but she was unable to recall the man’s name. It is unclear whether or not this is in any way related to her disappearance.
